Sarah Shaver spoke with Jane Newkirk, CEO of The Clinton County (Ohio) Community Action Partnership (CCCA). CCCA dates from President Johnson’s War On Poverty in the 1960’s and serves Clinton County, Ohio exists to help people live self-sustaining lives, to try and get them out of poverty, to give them the strength and guidance to live that self-sustaining life. Newkirk said they serve people who often don’t have enough for “market” prices on food and housing but make too much for subsidized services - the people “in the cracks.” She said services include housing, home energy, and food assistance, education, supportive services, and home weatherization. CCCA plans include a community garden and a Head Start classroom in their senior center, now renamed “Aging Up.”
