Sarah Shaver spoke with Dare County Arts Council(DCAC) Executive Director Jessica Sands about the mission of the Council, the importance of supporting local art and artists, their workshops, and encouraging residents to express themselves with art. Sands said the DCAC promotes visual art, music, theatre, film, and other mediums and she discussed the kids ArtRageous Festival. Sands described the different galleries and what residents might see. Sands discussed highlights like the Veterans Writer’s Workshops, Veteran’s Art Program, The Power Of Art for people with developmental disabilities, cancer, or cognitive decline, The New World Festival, their memorial art shows, speaker series, First Friday, and Rock the Cape. She said the arts play a vital role in bringing people from different backgrounds together.
