Peter Kaye speaks with Alex Lauer of Habitat for Humanity Buffalo about their home ownership program. Lauer contrasts the short- and long-term costs of renting a home versus the purchasing of a Habitat home for those who qualify. She walks through the process from the initial application, building the home, and finally the excitement of the home dedication. Lauer speaks to the importance of the program being a hand up rather than a handout and what that looks like regarding their mandatory sweat equity policy. Lauer also speaks about their two Restore locations and how they help homeowners and the planet.
