Ron Turner talks with Leigh Wiley, Director at the Margaret Jones Public Library Sylvester about exploring the heart of our communities—the public library. Wiley talks about the various programs available to children and families that help increase literacy. Wiley explains how technology has become a wonderful tool for access to many new resources while pre-pandemic numbers are still the same in terms of attendance and participation. Wiley talks about the trend toward home schooling and offers a “Home Schooling Hang-Out” at the library where families can get together and discuss their experiences and curriculum. Wiley mentions that on a National level, children should be reading by the third grade. She says Georgia is tackling the issues on a State level. Wiley is proud of their new campaign to go “Fine Free” to bring families back into the library and participate more to help children learn to read and more. Wiley says the public library connects many perspectives with the shared mission of knowledge, community, and service. They can be contacted at (https://www.worthlib.org/)
