Food insecurity and homelessness is a huge issue in Winston-Salem, and Samaritan Ministries addresses both, with a soup kitchen and temporary housing for homelessness. Bob Dittman discussed with Jan Kelly, the Executive Director of Samaritan Ministries on the programs they offer to help people get ahead in life. Jan says they provide daily meals for those in need, whether homeless or not, and how they provide temporary shelter as they connect residents with services to get back up on their feet. They also have a program for those who have substance abuse issues where housing is more permanent while they recover with counseling and make a path to restore their lives. Samaritan Ministries also partners with Wake Forest University with legal services that help expunge records that may be hindering them in obtaining housing or employment.
