Peter Kaye speaks with Dave Beidel of Urban Hope NYC about the many challenges facing today’s at-risk youth. Beidel speaks to the cyclical issue of illiteracy in the inner city. He shares about how Urban Hope NYC has mobilized volunteers to work within the local school districts to help alleviate literacy struggles. Beidel also spotlights the Urban Hoops program bringing kids together for basketball tournaments while generating comradery and friendship between schools and neighborhoods. He also discusses the school adoption program that the department of education has initiated matching local churches with local schools to promote positive change.
