Peter Kaye speaks with Danielle Decoteaux, academic dean at West Bay Christian Academy about the crucial skill of reading. Decoteaux speaks to the importance of reading and how that is even more critical in our digital world. She encourages parents to begin reading to their kids at the earliest ages to instill a love for reading in them. Decoteaux explains some of the core tools to teaching reading including decoding as well as sight words or heart words. She discusses the COVID gap and how it is still a factor with some kids, especially those who were just learning the foundational pieces of reading when the pandemic hit.
