Jeanice Lee talks with Erin Maidlow, Executive Director of Umpqua Valley Farm to School. Maidlow says they focus on school garden education, food system and getting fresh local produce into the community. Douglas County has 31 documented school gardens. They offer education to 9 school gardens; they also provide indirect education which means they offer resources or technical assistance with things such as the layout of a garden. They have a commercial kitchen to host events and people can lease it for their business. Maidlow shares how they work with local farmers, fishermen and how they help those who are food insecure.
