How to Keep Growing Spiritually in 3 Steps

Christian Living

The goal of Christian living is to continue to grow and fall more in love with Jesus throughout our lives. Nobody achieves perfection in a lifetime. Instead, we're invited on a journey with the One whose passion drove Him to die for us. Let us help you take your next steps in your relationship with Jesus.

Here are three steps for living well with Jesus.

1. View all your life as a relationship with God.

Living for Jesus is not about following a list of do’s and don’ts. It’s about getting to know our loving, compassionate, holy God; spending time with Him; and living in a way that brings Him glory.

2. Love God first.

In the book of Matthew, Jesus tells us to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Matthew 22:37). A healthy, well-balanced, and flourishing life starts with loving Jesus above all else. That may mean laying aside our own desires, our own ambitions, and our own motivations in favor of obedience to God’s Word and will. But God is trustworthy, and His plans for us are always better than our own.

3. Love people next.

Jesus continues in verse 39: “A second [command] is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (22:39 NLT). This isn’t always easy; people can be hard to love sometimes! But with God leading us, and His Holy Spirit empowering us, we can love our families, our friends, and our communities as Jesus commanded.

Below are some Scriptures to help you know what God says about our life in Christ. If you want prayer or to talk about what it means to live fully for Jesus, please call the pastoral care team at 800-525-5683.

Additional Scriptures

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light. – 1 Peter 2:9 NLT

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. – Psalm 1:1-2 NLT

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. – Galatians 5:16 NLT

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.  Galatians 5:22-26 NLT
