When we think about the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus, we may think of it in the context of a church or a teaching from a pastor. But what does the Gospel look like in our day-to-day lives? How do we practically live out the Gospel when our schedules are full of work deadlines, school drop-offs, and appointments?
Invite God Into Your Day-to-Day
Psalm 139:7 says, “I can never escape from Your Spirit! I can never get away from Your presence!” (NLT). God is not confined to a church building or to the times when we can spend three hours alone in prayer. He is with us every day and in every situation. So invite Him into your everyday situation! Pray over your children in the school drop-off line, ask Jesus for wisdom as you go into a meeting, and seek His peace in the middle of your appointments.
Looking to God in the middle of our busy schedule shifts our perspective off of ourselves and onto the One who is greater than anything we may face during our day.
When we put God first in our lives, it doesn’t just have a positive effect on us, it has a positive effect on others as well! Jesus encourages us in Matthew 5:16 to let our “deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise [our] Heavenly Father” (NLT).
Represent God by Your Actions
We are not only invited to seek God during the day, but also to represent Him by our actions. Think of your favorite sports team. When you wear their jersey or speak about your favorite player, you represent them to others. It is the same with Jesus. When we “wear” characteristics of Jesus—like love, joy, patience, and compassion—we represent Him. We have the opportunity to share Jesus with others by walking in kindness toward our children’s teachers, working diligently at our jobs, and talking about His goodness with our neighbors.
We may not have hours to spend in our “prayer closets,” but we can be intentional to seek God and represent Him all throughout the day.
Prayer
Lord, help me to be intentional in seeking You today. I invite You into my decisions and my schedule. I want to look to You first. I want to represent You to others through my speech and my actions. Thank You for strengthening me in this way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
