The Holy Spirit
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things.” – Galatians 5:22-23 NLT
The Person of the Holy Spirit
The Bible speaks of God as the Trinity. One God existing as three persons—Father, Son, and Spirit. Genesis tells us that at the beginning of creation, the Son spoke all things into existence according to the Father’s perfect plan. As the earth took shape, the Spirit of God hovered over the waters. This all-powerful presence draped over the land as God placed His most precious creation—humanity—into the Garden of Eden. As Adam and Eve walked the Garden’s tranquil borders, the Spirit was there to lead them into truth and closer to the heart of God.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
This same Spirit is alive and moving today. Bringing order to chaos. Leading people to deeper knowledge of the Son. Transforming lives. Building the kingdom of God.
But more than that, the Spirit is making a home. Because all who have a saving relationship with Jesus don’t simply experience His presence surrounding them—but filling them, too. The Holy Spirit has chosen to dwell within each believer. To show that He is near. To prove that He is present. To give evidence of your salvation.
It is the work of the Spirit to glorify the Son as the Son glorifies the Father. This is a work that is not done independently from us. It is wholly worked out in us and through us as the Spirit empowers us to please God with our lives.
The Fruit of the Holy Spirit
The evidence of this work is fruit—outward, tangible results of the Spirit nourishing our souls. This fruit can only grow when we, as the branches, abide in the vine (see John 15:1-11). Without Jesus as the centerpiece of our lives, we can do nothing of spiritual value. We must embrace the Spirit-empowered life if we are to be fruitful.
