Did you know that you have a darkness problem? You're probably wondering what that even means. Well, you're in luck, because today's Verse of the Day brings us some answers.
It comes from John chapter 12, verse 46. "'I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in Me will no longer remain in the dark.'"
We've been given a problem and a solution in this Scripture. Jesus is so kind to help us walk through our own stuff. He gives us a solution: light. I have with me a handy dandy light bulb. We're going to pretend like this is Jesus's solution to our darkness problem.
We Cannot Fix Our Darkness Problem by Ourselves
How much power does a light bulb have by itself? I can hold it however I want to. I can shake it back and forth. I can do whatever. It seems kind of silly to do that when I know it needs to be plugged into something for light to show up. But how often do we do that? We have a problem. We pick up what looks to be a solution, and we try to do whatever we can with it to make it happen by ourselves.
A very humbling thought is this: We cannot fix our darkness problem by ourselves. We need Jesus. Let's imagine for a second that this is Jesus. I can look at this lamp all day long and still hold on to the light bulb. How often do we do that with Jesus? We could say, man, you are such a good man. Jesus was such a good teacher. Such an inspiration. But I still have a problem over here.
Give Jesus Your Whole Life
What if we were to take a risk? What if we dare to believe that when Jesus says that when we put our trust in Him, then we won't be in darkness anymore? What if we take this solution and we say, okay, Jesus, I can give You my life. I can give You my issues. I can give You my struggles, but only to a point. Where's the light, Jesus? Notice I didn't give myself completely to Him.
We can go so far. One foot in, one foot out. Maybe you've been there. Maybe you're there right now where you say, Jesus, I'll trust You with most of my life, but not all of it. We have to believe the Word. When Jesus says that those who put their trust in Him will not experience darkness, that this is what it means: "Jesus, I give You my whole life." Now I'm no longer in darkness and His promise is showing through.
I'd ask you today, if you've never given your full life to Jesus, you haven't fully trusted Him with everything you're going through, that you try it on. You try Him at His promise, and you see if He comes through for you. I can hold my solution by myself. But it's only when I put all of my faith and trust in Jesus and not in the what-ifs or the solutions that I think are best, that the light truly comes on and my darkness problem disappears.
