This verse is so encouraging because in and of itself, it's an assertion of the power, the majesty, the glory of God—that God made the heavens. It's one of those statements that, if we're not careful, can feel like, oh, it's the thing you say when you're in church. It's a very Bible kind of phrase. But think about the practicality of that: that there would be a God of the universe that was so majestic, so powerful, and so amazing that He could make the heavens.
That's really, really encouraging—that this God who has this power is mindful of us.
Jeremiah Prays for Understanding
Why I extra love this verse is if you're looking in your Bible, a lot of times there's going to be a subheading right before chapter 32, and it probably will say something like, "Jeremiah Prays for Understanding." Here's why I love this verse with that as the premise:
Imagine if you were looking for the source of understanding in a situation that feels confounding. Maybe you're trying to figure out the way forward and you don't know the decision you're supposed to make. Maybe you don't know what to do and you feel stuck.
Imagine in that scenario where you feel helpless in your own strength and in your own thinking and abilities, and you know that there's the ability to pray to someone who might know the way forward. Wouldn't it be encouraging, then, that when you're praying for this understanding, the One you're praying to not only understands your little problem—He understands the very essence of how to knit together the fabric of the heavens?
That would be pretty assuring—that the God of the universe, whom we get to pray to, is not only the source of the answers we're seeking, but He is the source of life. He is the source of all that is good.
Encouragement in Times of Disillusionment
This is encouragement in times of disillusionment. I know personally what it's like to be in a scenario, in a season, where it feels like you're just stuck. There are so many things that feel like they're coming at you from different directions—whether it's financial challenges, family challenges, relational strain, maybe somebody who is a friend has now shown themselves to be an enemy.
Maybe there's disappointment in someone you looked up to, revealing their character and nature to be something that is making you really sad. Those hurts, those pains, that confusion—that's real. That comes with being a human on earth.
In those moments, we feel helpless in our own thoughts and in our own way forward. We're wondering, what is it that we can do? Like, where can we turn in order to figure out what's happening when we need understanding?
Take Solace in God's Understanding
Take solace today. No matter where you are on your journey, know that when you pray to the living God, He is the source of understanding. So much so that the very same God that you're asking for guidance is the same God who created the heavens.
Be encouraged today and pray with confidence that the God of the universe can hear you and can answer.
