Loneliness is a common problem, but the last couple of years have magnified those feelings for everyone. Thankfully, we serve a God who knows our need for community. In fact, He made us this way! When God created the first human being, Adam, He saw that “it [was] not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18 NLT).
We were all made to live and thrive in a community with other believers. We need them and they need us! That being said, finding and connecting with a good, godly group of people can be difficult. You may have been hurt by the church or other professing Christians. You may not have a way to get to church. Maybe you just don’t know how to find a good church or get more connected. Wherever you’re at today, remember that we serve a loving Father who promises help and wisdom when we ask for it.
Here are 10 Scripture-based prayers to help you seek God and His role for you within the Body of Christ.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near. – Hebrews 10:25 NLT
Lord, in a season full of distractions, fears, and hardships, so many things could get in the way of meeting with other believers. God, You know my heart and my situation. Out of Your great love and insight, show me how to connect with other brothers and sisters in Christ, giving me the courage I need to do so. In Jesus’ name, amen.
God places the lonely in families; He sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. – Psalm 68:6 NLT
Lord, thank You that even though I may feel lonely, I am never truly alone. You are with me always, and You know me so perfectly. Out of that perfect knowledge, You know my need for community, and You are not a God who keeps any good gift from Your children. So, Father, show me how I can live my life in a community with other believers, as You made me to do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours. – Romans 1:12 NLT
Father, I long to be in a community full of mutual encouragement! You have given me specific gifts to build up the body of Christ. Please show me where and who I can be serving with those gifts. Please put people in my life who can pour into me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure. – Ephesians 1:5 NLT
Lord, I am in awe when I think that You chose me in advance to be adopted in Christ and that You actually delight in bringing me into Your family! When insecurity starts to creep in, help me combat the enemy’s lies of unworthiness and instead choose to serve in the community with my brothers and sisters in Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. – Colossians 2:7 NLT
Lord Jesus, help my life be built upon You as my solid foundation, and that all I do would flow from being rooted in You. May Your Holy Spirit help me grow strong in Your truth and bless me with a thankful heart. Lord, I ask that You bring people into my life to both help me become more Christ-like and who I can also encourage toward growth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. – 1 Corinthians 12:12 NLT
Lord, thank You for adopting me into the Body of Christ. Help me see my value within the Church and have the wisdom to know exactly where You want me to be. It is tempting to desire others’ spiritual gifts and abilities, feeling like I don’t have as much to offer. Protect me from these lies, reminding me that You made me on purpose and with purpose. In Jesus’ name, amen.
So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT
Lord, since we live in a fallen world full of gossip and slander, I ask that you protect me from engaging in such things. I ask for healing over my heart where I have been wronged. Lord, help me forgive as You have forgiven me, and that I may be at peace with others. Allow me to have eyes to see how I can encourage others toward Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you. – 2 Corinthians 13:11 NLT
Thank You, Lord, that peace and joy are free gifts from You that no one, not even Satan Himself, can take away from me! Show me how to receive these blessings from You today so that I may pour out to others from an overflow of what You have poured into me. Help me walk in step with You all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” – Psalm 32:8 NLT
As I seek to honor You, Father, guide me by Your Spirit. I know that You will never leave or abandon me no matter where I go, but I ask You to put me on the best path You have for me. Specifically, I ask that You would place me in the correct local church body, giving me clarity on where You want me to be investing and serving. In Jesus’ name, amen.
I pray that they will all be one, just as You and I are one—as You are in Me, Father, and I am in You. And may they be in us so that the world will believe You sent Me. – John 17:21 NLT
Jesus, just as You prayed for unity among Your children, I echo that prayer now. There is so much division in our world, even within the Body of Christ. I ask for unity over Your Church. Lord, please bring peace into my community, country, and world. Guide me by Your Spirit to do all I can to be at peace with others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
