So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.” – John 10:7 NLT
After a man who was born blind is healed, he falls down in worship after learning his Healer was Jesus, the Son of Man.
But more than the ability to see, this man received so much more from Jesus than he could have ever anticipated. In a brief encounter with a stranger, a man who had been cast from his community of faith to live on the margins of society was welcomed by the Messiah. No questions. No judgment. Only an open invitation to enter into God’s love and everlasting kindness, with a newfound ability to see the world through God’s point of view.
Our world is blind. Blind to the things above. Blind to the ways of God. Blind to the desperate need for God’s power in our lives.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Jesus wants us to see the world clearly––through God’s perspective. But in order for us to have our spiritual sight restored, we must listen to His voice and follow His Word. We must enter into His presence. And there’s only one way in…through the door.
When we respond to God’s calling to follow Him and put our faith in Jesus, we enter in through a metaphorical door that leads us directly into the heart of God. A door that can only be unlocked through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus.
In Genesis 3, Adam and Eve were removed from the Garden after they sinned, and the door to a relationship with God was closed. But through the saving work of Christ, the door has been reopened! The way has been restored!
Perhaps you’re trying to feel closer to God, or at the very least not make Him angry. You’ve tried to stop sinning because you know it breaks His heart, and you’ve given it your all when it comes to living a good life––but every time you mess up, it’s just another reason to feel unworthy of being with Him.
Hear the words of the Healer. Worship at His feet. Enter into the presence of God. The Shepherd is calling you in. It’s time to follow His voice and enter in through the door.
