Day 1 – Read Proverbs 1
How to Unlock a Treasure of Wisdom
Proverbs is a treasure trove of wisdom for life. Told from the perspective of a wise, experienced father, Proverbs unveils a short instruction manual filled with practical advice, life hacks, and profound teachings.
Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. – Proverbs 1:7 NLT
If you’re like me, you search Google for answers. But Proverbs unlocks its treasure to anyone disciplined enough to search for it. Whether you’re a husband, wife, single person, student, or grandparent, Proverbs offers wisdom and grants more lasting rewards than Google could ever deliver.
Two Ways to Learn and Grow In Wisdom
Proverbs 1:2-7 outlines the whole purpose of the book. These seven verses pack a punch and culminate with this powerful statement: “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
This means there are two main ways that we learn:
1. When we bump our heads and learn from our mistakes—now or later!
2. From someone older and wiser than we are—which provides us a roadmap for avoiding life’s bruises.
I want to gain wisdom and discernment (Proverbs 1:2), have prudence (Proverbs 1:4), add to my learning (Proverbs 1:5), avoid the wrong company (Proverbs 1:10-19), and escape the dangers of naivety (Proverbs 1:32). Instruction for how to do all that and more is contained in Proverbs.
Daily Doses of Wisdom’s Treasures
Our lives would exude more wisdom, discipline, insight, and discernment if we followed the roadmap in Proverbs 1:2-7. Friends, let’s take our daily dose of Proverbs vitamins and live significantly for Jesus and others.
