The Proverbs Challenge – Day 2

Day 2 – Read Proverbs 2

The Rewards of Seeking Wisdom

It's easy to overpromise and under-deliver, but Proverbs always delivers! After contrasting the two ways (wise or foolish) people live in Proverbs 1, Proverbs 2 promises results and benefits to the "choosers of wisdom." Commentator Robert Alden aptly says, “…wisdom grants her rewards to those who follow her.”

Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding...Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God. – Proverbs 2:2, 5 NLT

Choose Wisdom

The word “if” is used three times in four verses (Proverbs 2:1-4 ESV), which shows that life is full of options and choices. God has given us the gift of choice—and the best choice we can make is seeking wisdom!

Seek Wisdom

Solomon’s passion overflows when he writes, “My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.” (Proverbs 2:1-4)

Solomon desperately wants his son to know the benefits of seeking after wisdom. As parents, we should desire the same for our kids. Imagine your children searching for and treasuring up wisdom in their hearts while they're still young, so that they have God's truth to draw on in difficult seasons. What an amazing gift! Passionate searching is the process required for finding something of great worth.

Rewards of Wisdom

God rewards the eager seeker of wisdom. Here is a treasure chest of wisdom's rewards and benefits.

  1. Knowledge of God. (Proverbs 2:5)

  2. Deeper understanding. (Proverbs 2:6)

  3. Clear direction. (Proverbs 2:9)

  4. More joy. (Proverbs 2:10)

  5. Safety and security. (Proverbs 2:11-19)

Lifestyle of Wisdom

I read Proverbs often and encourage my kids to do the same, because I recognize how badly I need wisdom; it's a life-long pursuit. We never reach the "end" of wisdom—God always has more to teach us as He continues to shape us into His image.

Friends, let’s choose to seek God's wisdom daily!
