One of the biggest lies of the enemy is that God is holding out on us. I remember praying for a specific need in my life. I didn't just pray, I fasted. I invited people to pray with me, and I was believing for God to come through and really bring a miracle in my life, but He didn't.
It's in those moments where I found myself having unmet expectations. Then there's this lie that kept coming into my mind: God wants to hold out on you. God doesn't care.
The enemy kept attacking my mind over and over: God is holding out on me. God doesn't want what's best for me.
When You Have Unmet Expectations
You will eventually get to a place in life where you will have unmet expectations. Well, you pray for something and wonder, why isn't God coming through? I mean, after all, He's able, right? That's what we preach. That nothing's impossible with God.
When you get to that place in life where you have unmet expectations, where you're starting to believe that God is holding out on you, go back to this verse—Romans chapter 8, verse 32—and it says this: "He did not spare even His own Son, but He gave Him up for us."
God's Incredible Generosity
It's so important to understand that God is so generous. Here's how generous He is: He gave His one and only Son. Think about that. What was most precious to Him? He gave His Son so that we can be rescued from the wrath of God.
Because when you and I are in Christ—because God gave His one and only Son—and when we say yes to Jesus, now we're in Christ and we're saved from condemnation.
Is God holding out on us? Absolutely not. He's so generous that He gave His Son. It's so important that we look to the cross every day, especially when we have unmet expectations and we wonder, is God really for me? He is, because He gave His one and only Son.
Won't He Also Give Us Everything Else?
I love the remainder of the verse that says this: "Won't He also give us everything else?"
Because He gave His one and only Son, won't He also give us everything else? What do you need today? Maybe you're watching and you're wrestling with an illness, anxiety, depression. Maybe you do have unmet expectations, and you believe the lie that God is holding out on you.
Can I just remind you today? Because God gave His one and only Son, He can take away your anxiety. He can take away your depression. He can supply your needs. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
Preach This to Yourself
Preach that to yourself. Because the battle will always be in our minds. Whenever we have unmet expectations in our faith and we start to wonder, is God really good?—the attack is always on how good God is and how faithful God is.
Remind yourself of how generous God is. He's so generous that He gave His one and only Son. That's why, whatever need that we have, we can take it to God and know that He's able to answer that need.
