Although she’s never mentioned by name, Andrew Ripp’s daughter, Frances, is the inspiration behind his new single, “I’d Do It Again.” Following a seven-year struggle with infertility, Ripp and his wife, Carly, were finally able to hold their first child, whom they adopted at birth. They’ve since added to their brood with the adoption of two more kids; but the prayers they prayed, the battles they fought and the pain they endured to build their family is never far from their minds.

Looking into his daughter’s eyes one day, Ripp asked himself the question: Would I do it again? The rhetorical answer was an immediate, resounding “yes.” For the chart-topping musician, every bit of the wait was worth the reward, and the singer has been incredibly candid about his experience and what it’s taught him about God along the way.

“Anyone who has endured a long season of waiting to become a parent understands this: Knowing now who I was waiting for, I’d do it again,” Ripp explains. “That realization led me to reflect on how much pain Jesus endured for us…and to ask myself, if He had to, would He do it again?”

Ripp answers this question in his latest song, which he co-wrote with Ethan Hulse and Hank Bentley. As the father of three contemplated the perseverance, commitment and sacrifice his own path to parenthood required, he began to think of all that was required on the road to Calvary. The story of the events leading up to Jesus’ death on the cross and His subsequent resurrection unfold across the moody, well-crafted original as the lyrics explore the lengths Christ went to save humanity.

“I’d Do It Again” serves as Ripp’s first taste of new music following the release of his full-length project, “The Mercy Room,” in September.
