K-LOVE On Demand Goes Behind The Scenes of Tommee Profitt’s Easter Soundtrack ‘The Resurrection Of A King’
Producer, songwriter and composer Tommee Profitt unveiled his highly anticipated Easter soundtrack, “The Resurrection Of A King,” during a red carpet premiere at K-LOVE’s headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, where attendees were treated to a Q&A with the visionary and a screening of the project’s companion documentary, streaming now exclusively on K-LOVE On Demand.
Both the film and the album showcase a vibrant array of Christian artists, all carefully recruited by Profitt to record his reimagined versions of familiar Easter hymns. Established names like CeCe Winans, Phil Wickham, Crowder and Jenn Johnson join growing favorites like Jon Reddick, Ben Fuller and Jamie MacDonald, as well as emerging talent like Jeremy Rosado and Bay Turner. Additionally, Profitt enlisted some musicians who are Christians but don’t explicitly create Christian music, such as ethereal singer-songwriter Fleurie, alt-pop viral sensation Abe Parker and emotive newcomer Isaac Mather, among others.
In Profitt’s boundless imagination, selections like “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Jesus Paid It All” and “I’ll Fly Away” transform into cinematic masterpieces, led by world-class vocalists. A full choir, an expansive orchestra and Profitt behind a grand piano — an instrument he taught himself to play as a child — accompany the 17 artists featured across the 19-track LP. Some of the innovative arrangements also boast brand-new refrains, like those heard on “He Arose” — the Wickham-helmed take on “Up From The Grave He Arose” — and the Johnson-led “When I Survey.”
Notably, “The Resurrection Of A King” serves as the sequel to 2020’s acclaimed “The Birth Of A King,” which follows a similar formula of modernizing beloved Christmas carols and pairing them with the vocalist of Profitt’s choice who best embodies each song. “The Birth Of A King” has now inspired an annual event where Profitt brings his opus to life on stage. Quickly becoming a holiday tradition for many, “The Birth Of A King” concert will return to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena for two nights in December 2026.
While the first project focused on the humble, unexpected arrival of Jesus, the second installment centers on His sacrifice. Filmed at Nashville’s historic Ocean Way Studios — a former church, complete with stained glass windows — the documentary captures a live performance of each of the album’s 19 tracks in the order they appear, as well as thoughtful interviews with Profitt and his featured guests and behind-the-scenes footage from the recording process.
“With ‘The Resurrection Of A King,’ I wanted people to feel like they were there at the cross or standing outside the tomb as Jesus walked out — that overwhelming, chills-inducing moment,” Profitt offers. “I had tears in my eyes almost every day working on this project. The music was overwhelming. The content was overwhelming. The subject matter was overwhelming. And once the singers stepped in and pushed their voices to the absolute edge of what they could do, proclaiming something so victorious and powerful over music that feels cinematic and massive…it became almost too much to hold — in the best way.”
A thoughtful, theatrical soundscape forms the backdrop for these lyrically rich and musically complex compositions; and as the assembled artists attest, Profitt stretched their respective capabilities with his vocally challenging arrangements. Although several chart-toppers punctuate Profitt’s project, the buzzworthy producer didn’t simply vie for the biggest headliners. Instead, he chose specific voices — regardless of notoriety — that would best complement the range and emotion of each recording. The result is a surprising mix of stylistically diverse artists who find themselves at different points in their career, including a few participants who, while believers, never expected to be a part of such a faith-forward endeavor. This list also includes Profitt himself, who’s largely known for his work in mainstream music despite his devout faith. Over the course of his professional journey, Profitt has worked with prominent artists such as Avril Lavigne, Josh Groban and NF. Moreover, he’s garnered more than 300 sync placements with his original music finding a home in movie trailers, television promos and video games.
“The Resurrection Of A King” paints the record as a passion project for Profitt and the fulfillment of a dream to find ways to blend his faith and his profound creativity. The documentary offers viewers an intimate glimpse into his creative process and the new meaning these timeless songs took on for the artists asked to steward them.
