Finding Grace In The Real-Real With Kristen Brust (+Podcast)

Kristen Brust knows what it’s like to fall apart while looking put together.
A former radio and TV professional turned podcaster and self-proclaimed "Mayor of Tiny Town," KB has mastered the art of being authentically real in a world obsessed with perfection.

Through her podcasts "In Kristen We Brust," she invites women to drop the mask, laugh through the chaos and see God in the middle of real life.

“Being imperfect is the whole point,” Kristen says. “I got tired of the shiny. Life isn’t always beautiful pictures—it’s hard and holy, all at once. That’s where God meets us.”

From Darkness to Light

Kristen’s journey hasn’t been picture-perfect. After a difficult divorce that she describes as “the darkest time of my life,” she discovered something powerful about God’s faithfulness.

“It was probably in that dark divorce time that was the worst of the worst… The closest He was all I had. You just do the baby steps. And I have this little theory that I adopted during the dark times—that was one more minute. If you can make it through just one more minute and then the minute after that, suddenly those minutes turn into an hour, hours can turn into a morning.”

She says those “one-more-minutes” became steppingstones of faith—moments God pieced together into a story of redemption.

“He glued together all my one-more-minutes,” she says. “And then I met my husband and then I met my babies.”

Jesus in the Everyday

What makes Kristen’s faith so refreshing is how she finds Jesus in the ordinary moments.

“There are times where I’m just doing laundry and I’m like, ‘Oh Jesus, be near. How many socks do we have? Amen.’”

Her humor and honesty have become her trademark—reminding women that holiness and humor belong together.

“The comedy in it is the humanness,” she says. “Imperfect is not the mission—it’s just not the way. So if you can take in life’s goodness, laugh when you can, cry when you need to… that’s how you live it out.”

Even in the middle of motherhood, homeschooling and her husband’s country-music career, Kristen has learned to let go of perfection and embrace grace.

“I finally learned to ask for help,” she laughs. “It took me three kids and a tailbone injury, but I did it! I call my helper Saint Christine. I couldn’t do it without her.”

Hope for the Hopeless

As a passionate advocate for mental health, Kristen shares openly about her own journey through anxiety, exhaustion and loss.

“There was a time I thought about ending my life,” she says quietly. “And that’s why I talk about hope now. When someone feels hopeless, I tell them—borrow mine.”

It’s a phrase she first heard from her counselor—and now it’s become the heartbeat of her message.

“When you’re out of hope, borrow mine,” she says. “That’s where mental health and faith meet. If we can keep each other from getting sick, if we can just lend hope, lend an ear, lend a prayer—even in imperfection—that’s where healing begins.”

Kristen believes that kind of honesty brings heaven close—what she calls “the thin place.”

“It’s where heaven touches down,” she says. “It’s when someone finally feels safe enough to say, ‘It’s hard… but I’m not alone.’”

Your Purpose Is Your Breath

When life feels overwhelming or purposeless, Kristen offers a simple but powerful truth:

“It’s as simple to me as breathing,” she says. “If you have air in your lungs, you’re not done. Your purpose is your every day—it’s not complicated. You don’t have to arrive at it. You’re already breathing it. You are it.”

She continues with an encouraging reminder that’s resonated with thousands of listeners:

“The life we’re given is the purpose. We’re changing and influencing on every scale. Even today, if you feel like you’ve lost purpose—that’s not true, because you’re still breathing.”

For Kristen Brust, that’s the message at the core of every conversation, every laugh and every podcast episode:
God’s not waiting for us to be perfect. He’s already present in the real, the raw and the beautifully ordinary.

“You’re doing great,” she smiles. “We are all doing great. Eggs are $14—we’re all just doing the best we can! But God is still right here in it with us.”
