Connecting the Dots of God’s Redemption Story

What if the entire Bible—from Genesis to Revelation—was like one giant connect-the-dots puzzle and when you finally see how it all fits together, it transforms not just your understanding of Scripture, but your entire life?

That’s the powerful message Rabbi Jason Sobel shares in his new book Transformed by the Messiah. The New York Times bestselling author and spiritual advisor for The Chosen series joined K-LOVE News to show how discovering the divine connections between the Old and New Testaments reveals God’s intentional involvement in every detail of our lives.

“When you finally see how everything connects, it reminds us that God is also involved in every detail of our lives,” Sobel said. “Knowing God has that level of intentionality and involvement is what gives us hope.”

From Hip-Hop DJ to Rabbi: A Supernatural Encounter

Sobel’s journey to faith began in an unexpected place—a hip-hop studio where he worked as a DJ and break dancer in his late teens.

“I looked at the lives of all these famous individuals around me and I said to myself, they have everything I thought I’ve ever wanted, but still there’s so much emptiness in their life,” he shared.

That spiritual hunger led to a supernatural encounter.

“One day I was meditating. My soul began to vibrate. It left my body. I found myself in heaven. I saw this King in glory on a throne high and lifted up… and I knew that King seated on the throne was Jesus,” Sobel said.

The revelation that would seal his faith came through Isaiah 53—a prophecy written 700 years before Jesus’ birth that perfectly described the Messiah’s suffering and sacrifice.

Moving From Fear to Faith in Uncertain Times

In today’s fear-driven world, Sobel offers a timely reminder of what true faith looks like.

“Fear is a false type of faith,” he said. “Fear believes the worst possible future… but faith believes the best. Our minds work like a projector. We either make our situation bigger than God—or we make God bigger than our situation.”

He encourages believers to move “from fear to faith and faith to trust,” knowing that God’s promises never fail—even in chaos.

The Manger and the Passover Lamb

Even the story of Jesus’ birth, Sobel explains, is rich with prophetic meaning.

“The shepherds in Bethlehem weren’t ordinary shepherds—they were Levitical shepherds raising Passover lambs for the Temple,” Sobel shared.  “When they found baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger, they recognized the Lamb of God—wrapped like a Passover lamb in priestly garments.”

Reversing the Curse on the Cross

Every detail of the crucifixion, he says, reveals God’s plan of redemption.

“Had sin entered the world through a tree, so God put Jesus back on a tree to reverse the curse,” Sobel explained (11:31).
“Even the crown of thorns shows He took the curse of creation on His head to restore the blessing.”

Transforming Tombs Into Wombs

One of the most powerful insights from Transformed by the Messiah reframes how we view resurrection.

“When Jesus died and rose again, He transformed the tomb into a womb,” Sobel said (16:27). “The very thing that tries to kill us, the very thing that wants to end us is the very thing that God wants to use to birth us into our promise… What seems like the end is really just meant to become our new beginning.”

You’ve Been Chosen—Now Get in the Game

For anyone feeling distant from God or unsure of their purpose, Sobel offers this encouragement:

“Just like Jesus called the disciples, everyone who believes Him is called—there are no benchwarmers,” he said. “You’ve been chosen for Team Jesus. He didn’t call us to the team to ride the bench. We’ve got to get in the game.”

And when we can’t see what God is doing, he reminds us to trust His heart:

“Even when we can’t see the hand of God, we can know the heart of God,” Sobel said. “He stepped into our brokenness so we could experience His wholeness.”

Bringing Authenticity to The Chosen

As the spiritual advisor for The Chosen, Sobel helps ensure that every scene reflects authentic first-century Jewish life.

“My youngest son turns to me during Passover and says, ‘Dad, it’s really weird that Jesus is here at the Seder and you’re leading it,’” Sobel laughed.

He says every moment—from the manger to the cross—was designed to show that God’s story has always been one story.
