(Houston, TX) - There’s something wonderful about a fresh start--a step of courage, a flicker of hope, and someone willing to say, “You belong here.”

For thousands of women in Houston, that moment begins the moment they walk through the doors of Dress for Success Houston.

At the heart of this life-changing work is Lauren Levicki Courville—a leader whose life reflects service, compassion, and a deep reliance on faith.

Lauren’s path to nonprofit leadership wasn’t linear—but it was intentional.

With a professional background in hospitality, sales, and marketing, she spent years learning how to listen, connect, and serve others well. But long before her career began, her foundation was already being built.

“I was raised to give back,” she shares. “To find your purpose and trust that everything else will follow.”

From Girl Scouts to international volunteer work, Lauren consistently leaned into opportunities to serve. So, when the door opened to join Dress for Success Houston, it felt less like a career move—and more like a calling.

On the surface, Dress for Success is known for providing professional attire to women entering or reentering the workforce.

But step inside, and you quickly realize—it’s about so much more than clothing.

“It’s not just about the suit,” Lauren explains. “It’s about how a woman feels when she puts it on.”

Each woman receives personalized support—from styling and interview coaching to job readiness programs and long-term career development. The organization offers over 20 programs, including financial literacy, legal education, mentorship, and even specialized support for women veterans.

It’s a holistic approach rooted in dignity, empowerment, and belief.

Because, when a woman begins to see herself differently, everything changes.

In nearly three decades, Dress for Success Houston has served more than 50,000 women.

But the true measure of impact isn’t found in numbers—it’s found in stories.

Lauren recalls one woman, Yemi, whose journey continues to inspire.

A single mother homeschooling her three sons, Yemi came to the organization ready to rebuild her life. She immersed herself in every opportunity—training programs, mentorship, and professional development.

Today, she works in the finance department at a major corporation. Even more powerful? She’s returned to serve as a volunteer, encouraging other women who are just beginning their journeys

Behind every success story is a reality many don’t see.

Women entering the workforce often face significant obstacles—childcare costs, transportation challenges, housing instability, and financial strain. Many are working multiple jobs and still struggling to make ends meet.

Lauren approaches this with both honesty and hope.

“We don’t say we remove barriers completely,” she explains. “But we work to mitigate them—step by step.”

That mindset reflects a deeper truth: meaningful change often happens gradually, through consistent support and compassionate care.

While Dress for Success Houston serves women of all backgrounds and is not a faith-based organization, Lauren’s personal faith plays a central role in how she leads.

“The Holy Spirit is my go-to,” she says with a smile.

In moments of uncertainty, she leans into prayer—seeking guidance, strength, and grace. For her, faith isn’t separate from the work—it’s woven into every decision, every interaction, every opportunity to serve.

That spirit of unity extends beyond individual belief systems. The organization partners with churches, mosques, synagogues, and community groups across Houston—creating a beautiful picture of people coming together for a shared purpose.

The impact of Dress for Success Houston wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Houston community.

From its humble beginnings—transporting clothing in the back of a car—to now operating in a thriving, fully utilized space, the organization has grown through generosity and faithfulness.

Today, nearly 500 volunteers contribute thousands of hours each year, offering their time, expertise, and encouragement to women in need.

It’s a powerful reminder: when a community comes together, lives change.
