Our Verse of the Day pulls so much of my heart out into the open, because it makes me so excited to think about what it represents, not only for me, but for so many other people.
Remembering What God Has Done
Remembering what God has done—we see here in the words in the book of Isaiah, this call to remember. Remembering, in the context of when this would have been written, would have been so important. You know, we have the luxury of this paper-bound book to look at the words of the Lord written down, and we can flip through the pages and we can go to the sections that we want to think about.
Imagine if you didn't have this book. Imagine if you didn't have the scroll or the parchment. Imagine you didn't have the verses written down right in front of you, but you're seeking with your life to honor God in the way that you make decisions and what you do. You want to remember the things that have happened for you, and that have led you into the places that you now live as a result of God's kindness. It would be important that you could recall, that you could pull from the past the things that you knew to be true about what has happened in your life because of God's goodness.
Remembering was important then, but it's important today as well. When I look at this verse and it says that "I will honor You, God, because I remember what You've done," it kind of lends to the fact that we in our daily lives, who are seeking and hoping to live in a way that's honorable before God, would actually begin to live differently when we think back to the times that God has exhibited His graciousness, His kindness toward us.
You Will Celebrate the Rescuer
When you remember what you've been rescued from, you will celebrate the Rescuer. This is an absolute fact. What I love is in the verse—not only are we remembering what God has done, but we also think about how what He has done was planned before we even showed up on earth. Are you kidding me? Like, this is something that is beyond human comprehension, that the good things we remember that God has done, that lead us to worship, were intentional by this living God who has existed before time even was a thing.
Yet He knew what would unfold in your life before you even showed up. That should be enough for us to stop and want to worship. Well, that's what this verse today represents—a remembering that leads to worship because of who God is.
A Call to Remember in Every Season
I don't know where you're at on your journey today. I don't know if life is hard right now, or if there's a beautiful, flourishing season that you're living in. Regardless of the circumstances, there is a call here for us to remember what God has done and lead us to the place of worship of Him.
The cool thing about the times when we're going through hard seasons is that remembering pulls us out of our current circumstances, just for a moment, long enough to know that God is indeed good. He has done good things, and the possibility is there that He can do them again.
Be encouraged today. Remember what God has done and let's go before Him with a worshipful posture because of His goodness.
