Hearing the Good News About Christ

What is a Christian's faith? Faith is taking hold of Christ. It is relying on Christ and Christ only—not relying on myself, not relying on anyone or anything else for salvation. If you're a Christian, you have placed your faith in Christ. You've taken hold of Him.

What needed to happen before you could place your faith in Christ? That's what this verse tells us. You needed to hear the good news about Christ. You needed to hear the gospel, the good news that Jesus, the Son of God, came, that He lived, that He suffered, that He died, that He rose from the dead in the place of sinners like you and me, so that sinners like you and me could be reconciled to God.

An Ongoing Faith

That initial faith that you had has become for you an ongoing faith because you're still tempted to trust in yourself. You're still tempted to trust in something else—maybe to look to your success or your reputation, or your knowledge, or your good deeds. You continually, as a Christian, have to rely on Christ and not anything else.

When I'm trusting in myself and I'm doing well, I grow proud. If I'm trusting in myself and I'm doing badly, I grow discouraged. Faith in Christ gets rid of all of that. I should not be proud, and I should not despair because my faith is in Christ.

We Need to Hear the Gospel Repeatedly

This is exactly why we need to hear the gospel. We need to hear the good news of Jesus over and over again. Do you know what Martin Luther said centuries ago? He said, “the gospel willeth me to receive this, and to believe it. Most necessary, it is therefore, that we should know this article well—that is the gospel— teach it unto others and beat it into their heads continually.”

You and I need to hear the gospel over and over again. The gospel is not something that I need to hear and believe in order to become a Christian only. The gospel is something I need to hear and believe in order to live life as a Christian.

Where will you hear the good news of Christ today? You get to hear it from the Bible. Are you going to read about it in a book? From a pastor, parent, a child? Find it today. As Paul said in Romans chapter 10 and verse 17, so faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the good news about Christ.

Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through Me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures.

But from there you will search again for the LORD your God. And if you search for Him with all your heart and soul, you will find Him.

Always be joyful. Never stop praying.

For the glory of Your name, O LORD, preserve my life. Because of Your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress.

Finally, I confessed all my sins to You and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And You forgave me! All my guilt is gone.

For everything comes from Him and exists by His power and is intended for His glory. All glory to Him forever! Amen.

O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for Your help.

Come, let us tell of the LORD’s greatness; let us exalt His name together.

“But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence.

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in His sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

Honor the LORD for the glory of His name. Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting You. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to You.

Yes, the LORD has done amazing things for us! What joy!

You love Him even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him now, you trust Him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.

Sing to the LORD, for He has done wonderful things. Make known His praise around the world.

God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

May all my thoughts be pleasing to Him, for I rejoice in the LORD.

As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in Your commands.

Listen to my instruction and be wise. Don’t ignore it.

Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success.

Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around Him were shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David! Blessings on the One who comes in the name of the LORD! Praise God in highest heaven!”

I love You, LORD; You are my strength.

"Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples.”

No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and His love is brought to full expression in us.

But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.

As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

For God is Spirit, so those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.

They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about Your mighty works.

Let the whole world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of Him.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

I took my troubles to the Lord ; I cried out to Him, and He answered my prayer.

I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

And the church is His body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with Himself.

So it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man.

He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.

No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

Instead, let us test and examine our ways. Let us turn back to the Lord .

Serve only the Lord your God and fear Him alone. Obey His commands, listen to His voice, and cling to Him.

O my son, give me your heart. May your eyes take delight in following my ways.

The Lord is like a father to His children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him.

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.

God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.

Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again— my Savior and my God!

Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, You are God.

Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name.

For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

“So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: The Lord is God both in heaven and on earth, and there is no other.

Sing to the LORD; praise His name. Each day proclaim the good news that He saves.

Lord , there is no one like You! For You are great, and Your name is full of power.

For you are great and perform wonderful deeds. You alone are God.

Let all that I am praise the LORD. O LORD my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty.

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

For who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is a solid rock?

I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on Him. I have put my hope in His word.

I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your laws.

The Lord cares deeply when his loved ones die.

The name of the LORD is a strong fortress; the godly run to Him and are safe.

My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!

Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

The LORD is good to those who depend on Him, to those who search for Him.

I long to obey Your commandments! Renew my life with Your goodness.

We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield.
