K-LOVE Exclusive Interview with Phil Wickham

Sometimes, brothers and sisters commit to Christ in the most unlikely of places. Just ask Phil Wickham, who wept with his car salesperson when discussing Jesus before closing the deal.

During a recent visit to the K-LOVE Studios, the singer, songwriter, author and worship leader discussed his many endeavors with K-LOVE’s Lauree, including that tale at the dealership.

“It's actually the biggest thing I feel like God has been showing me lately,” Wickham said of the ability to tell others about Jesus. “I got to lead a car salesman to the Lord three days ago, because she just was looking for a reason [to know Jesus]… She's a Middle Eastern lady, and she pulled out this book. She says, ‘Someone gave me this in Farsi. It's the New Testament, but I don't really know about Jesus, but he seems like such a great guy.’ I'm like, ‘Well, let's talk about it.’ Fifteen minutes later, we're crying and she's accepting Jesus into her heart."

Wickham’s parents did the same decades ago when they were baptized in the same place and body that the now hit film, “Jesus Revolution,” is based on, and as a child growing up in San Diego, Wickham’s connection to the movie runs deep.

“A lot of my history, the reason why I exist, let alone the reason why I know Jesus and have such great examples of what it means to follow Jesus and my parents, is because of this amazing love of God that happened in the 70s,” Wickham said. “It was so cool to watch [the movie]. I got to get a sneak peek that I got to bring my parents to – it was me and my parents and some other people that were really closely tied to the movie a few months ago, and it was just kind of wild sitting there and seeing it portrayed…it's amazing.”

Also a deeply devoted “Lord of the Rings” fan, Wickham also discusses his new book, “On Our Knees: 40 Days to Living Boldly in Prayer,” as well as his upcoming summer tour alongside fellow artist, Brandon Lake, who he met years ago on a text thread.

Above all, Wickham acknowledges, the desire from people to know the Lord seems to be as strong as it ever had – and he’s helping them to know Jesus, one car salesperson at a time.

“It feels like all it takes is some people to stand up and say, ‘I found the treasure of all treasures, and it's Jesus,’” Wickham said. “All it takes is the Holy Spirit…and like that could be today, you know? I believe it will be today, and I'm believing for that.”
