Sarah Shaver spoke with Kristi Travarro, Executive Director of the Rochester (Michigan) Downtown Development Authority (DDA), dedicated to creating a place where their residents can gather and belong. They discussed the DDA’s history, the historic aspects of downtown Rochester and National Main Street, and they are helping businesses find their place downtown and the downtown attract businesses that will grow and benefit Rochester’s residents. Their Main Street Makeover was a little scary but ended up being a great opportunity and added to their work as a downtown development engine that also increases the tax base and benefits everyone. Rochester has over 100 live events every year (organized by their PSD) and had some great success during COVID with Love Local Rochester.
