CityServe International is joining numerous partners for Labor Day Sunday, a national movement of faith communities across the country that are choosing to celebrate the dignity of work and the contributions that small business owners and everyday workers make to their communities. The initiative also focuses on the divine purpose for work and how humanity can partner with what God is doing in the world through their vocation.
“Work was never meant to be a burden—it was part of God’s design from the very beginning,” said Pastor Wendell Vinson, co-founder of CityServe International. “The Bible makes it clear that our labor is a way to honor Him. This movement is about restoring the dignity of work, deepening our understanding of biblical principles, and celebrating the men and women whose hard work often goes unseen.”

As part of the event, CityServe is partnering with Canyon Hills Assembly of God in Bakersfield, California, for a Labor Day Sunday church service on August 31st. The church service will include a panel where community leaders from across the United States will share about why it is important to honor those Labor Day is intended to celebrate and how faith has played a role in their own business journeys.
Labor Day Sunday supports CityServe’s Compassion Initiative, The Poor, which equips local churches to serve those in need and help break the cycle of poverty. Through job skills training and development programs, CityServe empowers unemployed men and women to gain practical skills, secure employment, and learn what it takes to thrive in the workplace. Moving people from dependency to sustainability with employment restores dignity, builds self-worth and purpose, and creates pathways to lasting transformation.
