Water Mission Engineering Ministry Now Has Safe Water Flowing In 2 Ukrainian Cities

Water Mission’s team has safe water flowing in two Ukrainian cities, Pokrovsk and Mykolaiv!

Water Mission is currently the only NGO within Ukraine producing safe water in multiple cities across the country.

We’re leading a coordinated response in Ukraine with partners addressing the urgent need for safe water access. Many municipal water systems have been critically damaged by the ongoing conflict and are no longer operating, leaving approximately 6 million people within Ukraine with limited or no access to safe water.

We are also addressing spiritual needs, bringing the reassurance of God’s love to those who have experienced tremendous loss. We’ve printed Bibles and biblical trauma healing resources in Ukrainian, which are being distributed by local churches that are ministering to those impacted by the crisis.

People are resorting to any available water sources, including rivers, creeks, and ponds, all of which have bacteria and can cause illness or death. The situation is dire and the need for water is becoming a bigger and bigger issue. The Twitter post below is from the southeast city of Mykolaiv with a population of more than 400,000 people. The photo shows people are waiting for water at an artesian well that prior to the war, was more of a novelty/tourist attraction. Safe water access is a critical need for internally displaced populations for consumption, cooking, and cleaning, all contributing to good health and avoiding the spread of disease.

Water Mission’s response is focused on immediately providing emergency water access with our Living Water Treatment Systems that treat and purify local water sources on a large scale. Each water purification system has the capability to provide enough safe water for up to 5,000 people per day. We have five more emergency water systems being installed in Mykolaiv and we are shipping additional systems to other locations as quickly as we can.

Water Mission teams are also shipping water purification packets and hygiene kits from Poland into Ukraine through our NGO partners.

Water Mission was a first-responder when the conflict first broke out, serving refugees fleeing the ongoing conflict at the borders of Poland, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. This focus continues through supporting and coordinating efforts with regional partners and local churches to meet the physical and emotional needs of refugees impacted by this conflict including:

We are building out a water distribution network at the border in Poland that will pipe water to refugees, a healthcare tent, and a food distribution area. We have also produced hygiene kits to keep people healthy, even amid crowded conditions.

In addition to meeting physical needs, we are also addressing spiritual needs, bringing the reassurance of God’s love to those who have experienced tremendous loss. We’ve printed Bibles and biblical trauma healing resources in Ukrainian, which are being distributed by local churches that are ministering to those impacted by the crisis.

We are thankful to our partners and all who have come alongside us to support on our going response. Please join us in prayer for the men, women, and children of Ukraine. Pray also for safety and wisdom for our staff on the ground. May we continue to bring hope to our global neighbors in their time of greatest need, serving as an example of our Lord’s great love.
