Convoy of Hope is now also responding to weather events in Sand Springs, Oklahoma as well as Pascagoula and Moss Point, Mississippi.

A derecho-type event hit the greater Tulsa area over the weekend.  Because there are still significant power outages in the area, Convoy of Hope Disaster Services team members are working with a church in Sand Springs to distribute food to those in need, since grocery stores are still closed due to lack of power.

In Mississippi on Monday, another tornado hit. As a result, Convoy is sending team members and essential relief supplies to Moss Point and Pascagoula to help those impacted by the storm.

Convoy has already been sending essential relief supplies, including food, water, tarps, totes, cleaning supplies, hygiene kits and more to Texas and Florida following tornadoes late last week.  Convoy has been working in Perryton, Longview and Winnsboro, Texas, as well as the Pensacola area of Florida.

Texas

Convoy of Hope has distributed more than 110,000 pounds of relief supplies to more than 5,700 people in Perryton, Texas. These supplies are providing relief to those affected by the tornado that swept through the town last week.

Many people are still without power. “Transmission lines supplying the city with electricity have sustained damage and many lower voltage distribution lines are down in the city,” utility officials told the Texas Tribune.

Lack of consistent electricity limits people’s access to basic necessities. This makes the relief supplies Convoy distributes even more vital to vulnerable people and communities. When a family receives a hygiene kit, baby care kit, food, and water, a burden is lifted off of their shoulders and they can focus on rebuilding their lives.

Thank you for your continued support as Convoy responds to disasters all over the world — you’re helping relieve burdens for these families.

Florida

Distribution continues in Pensacola, Florida, after a severe storm caused flash-flooding in the area. Convoy of Hope has distributed more than 24,400 pounds of relief supplies and served more than 1,200 people in the Pensacola and Gulf Breeze communities.

After a severe storm system made its way through the Panhandle last week, some areas received up to 17 inches of rain. Flooding can cause power, water, and gas outages, limiting people’s access to basic necessities. It can also bring damage to homes, buildings, and roads; pollute drinking water systems; and cause landslides and mudslides.

When a family receives vital relief supplies distributed by Convoy of Hope, they can rest a little easier knowing their basic needs are met amid devastation.
