What began as a shared passion for art at Cedarville University has grown into a creative business that is helping businesses and community spaces in Greenville, South Carolina, flourish through murals, branding and visual design.
Jesse and Carissa Bowser, 2016 Cedarville graduates and co-founders of Victory Garden Studio, use hand-painted murals, illustration and graphic design to help small businesses strengthen their identities and enrich community spaces in Greenville. Their work contributes to the city’s growing arts and culture economy, a key driver of local economic development and community engagement.
What started as a college friendship rooted in creativity has developed into a full-time creative studio focused on fostering hope, beauty and community impact through art and design.
How Jesse and Carissa Bowser Built Victory Garden Studio
The two artists met at Cedarville University, where Jesse studied graphic design and Carissa pursued studio art. After discovering a shared love of creativity, Jesse and Carissa began collaborating in ways that laid the foundation for their future business.
“We started organizing little opportunities to do things that were playful and creative, from drawing together to creating chalk murals around campus,” said Carissa. “Those simple, shared projects were where our friendship — and our life of making art together — really began.”
After graduating in 2016 and marrying in 2017, the couple entered the professional world while continuing to collaborate on freelance creative projects. As demand for their work grew, their creative partnership became a defining strength and a foundation for entrepreneurship.
In 2024, the Bowsers officially launched Victory Garden Studio, transforming their long-standing creative partnership into a business focused on branding, mural design and community-centered art initiatives.
Greenville Arts and Culture Economy Benefits From Creative Design Business
Today, Victory Garden Studio contributes to Greenville’s expanding arts and culture scene, a sector increasingly recognized for its role in economic development, tourism and urban revitalization. The studio’s work enhances public spaces — from coffee shops to libraries — by creating environments that foster connection, identity and local pride.

That impact extends beyond the multiple murals and branding projects they’ve done for businesses in Greenville. The Bowsers created a mural for FedUp Foods in Marshall, North Carolina and developed logos and branding for the Sublette County Libraries in Sublette County, Wyoming. These projects reinforce the studio’s role in helping organizations across diverse communities build stronger identities through art and design.
Murals, Branding and Community-Centered Art Strengthen Local Identity
Among their notable partnerships is the Travelers Rest Farmers Market, the largest independently operated farmers market in South Carolina. Through comprehensive branding, advertising design, merchandise and digital content, the Bowsers helped strengthen the market’s visual identity and expand its community outreach.
“Every year, the Bowsers take their knowledge of our market and our passion for our work and turn it into a beautiful display of art,” said Amber Williams, programs and marketing coordinator at Travelers Rest. “They capture our commitment to people, our local community and the food system we support through the work they create for us. Their work has connected our community and helped grow our organization.”
That impact is central to the mission of Victory Garden Studio, serving both community development and individual growth through intentional, design-drive storytelling.

Cedarville University Alumni Use Art and Design to Revitalize Communities
Nearly a decade after their first collaborations, their vision has expanded far beyond the campus where it began. Today, the Bowsers are creating a lasting impact in the communities they serve.
As cities across the United States invest in arts-driven revitalization, studios like Victory Garden demonstrate how design, storytelling and visual identity can contribute to sustainable community growth and meaningful human connection.
