In two separate passages in 1 Corinthians, the body as described as “God’s temple.” As such, we are commanded to honor our bodies.
A new vidcast from K-LOVE News, “Muscles + Mission,” will explore the parallels between faith and fitness, and provide followers with some practical tips for sharpening spiritual, physical and mental health disciplines and making those routines sustainable.
The show is hosted by K-LOVE News Director Brent Adams and Michele Sotak, a nationally renowned personal trainer, a master trainer for one of the largest fitness equipment manufacturers in America, and the founder of the Faith and Fitness program at Chicago’s Holy Name Cathedral.
Over the course of the series, Michele and Brent will cover topics such as setting a routine, finding identity in Christ rather than appearance, exercise as a spiritual discipline, overcoming obstacles in spiritual life and fitness, and prioritizing mental health. The show is designed for people at all stages in their health and spiritual journey.
“It is our prayer that followers will come away from each episode with nuggets of wisdom that will motivate and challenge them to go deeper with prayer, worship, Scripture study and fitness,” Adams said. “We want people to think of the interconnectedness of faith and fitness and pursue both with passion.”
Sotak, who has devoted her life to teaching fitness, said she hopes people will understand that strengthening the body can actually strengthen a person’s walk with God.
“At the end of the day, this isn’t just about working out, it’s about becoming who you’re called to be,” Sotak said.
