All Glory to God Alone

Read the transcript from today's video devotional.

The book of Jude is a small little book, but it packs an amazing punch. Quite frankly, one of the themes of Jude is to contend for the faith. It's kind of boxing terminology, and in this chapter he tells us to contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints. This is the Word of God. This is the Gospel that we have. Jude wants us to really strive and compete for the importance of the truth of the Word of God, the Gospel.

Jesus Is Glorious, Majestic, and Powerful

Our Verse of the Day today is Jude chapter 1, verse 25. It says, "All glory to Him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are His before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen."

This passage shows us some tremendous attributes about Jesus Christ. Number one, Jesus is glorious. It says, all glory to Him. Then it says it a second time. He uses the word alone. There's a sense of exclusivity that the Lord Jesus Christ wants us to understand here. He is God, and He is absolutely glorious. He is exclusively glorious.

Of course, John chapter 14, verse 6 says, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." He is the specific one through which we obtain salvation. Acts chapter 4, verse 12 says, "There's salvation in no one else. There's no other name given among men whereby we must be saved." He alone is glorious.

Secondly, Jesus is majestic. Says right there in the verse again, majesty or majesty belongs to Him, and the Greek word here is megalosune. I say that because it's got the word mega in it. It's the idea that He's mega majestic. This is speaking of God's exalted status. He is glorious and He's mega majestic.

Thirdly, He's powerful. Says again, right there in the verse, "all glory, majesty, power." Jesus is powerful. It's the idea of strength. You say, well, how powerful is God? How powerful is Jesus? Well, it says in the verse, "All power and authority are His before all time and in the present and beyond all time. Amen." There's never been a time where God hasn't been in control. There's never been a time, and there never will be a time when Jesus Christ is not in control of every single person, power, or structure.

First Peter chapter 3 says that Jesus Christ has all angels and all authorities in subjection to Him. The Bible says Jesus Christ is at the right hand of the Father, which symbolizes authority.

How Should We Respond?

As you go through your life, you think about your personal life, whether it's your job, whether it's your family, whether you're worried about things, and you're asking yourself, who is in control? Is Jesus Christ really in control? Remember that this text says He's absolutely glorious. He's majestic, He's powerful, and He's always been in control of everything.

So what should we do with this? Well, very simple, I think. Number one, we should aim our lives to treasure God, aim our lives to glorify this incredible, majestic, powerful being who is the Lord Jesus Christ.

Secondly, we should deny ourself. You know, I'm the worst enemy in my marriage. I'm the worst problem in my life. I need to be a better husband. I need to be a better father. I need to be a better worker. I mean, every area of my life, every sphere, there's something that I need to work on. There's some area where I need to die to myself so that I can truly glorify God.

And then finally, let's be bold for God. Let's aim to glorify God. Let's aim to deny ourself. And thirdly, let's aim to be bold for God. If God is this great, if He's this awesome and massive and incredible and mega glorious, let's be bold for God. J.I. Packer says in his book, Knowing God, the people who know their God display great boldness for God.

The Bible says in Revelation, day and night the angels never stop saying, "Holy, holy, holy." I mean, they understand heaven's view of Jesus Christ. They understand how absolutely magnificent He is. So let's remember this doxology. Let's remember this way to worship God with our lives today and every day.
