What the Bible Says About Brokenheartedness

Dating
Grief and Loss

One of the hardest truths to accept about the Christian life is that we are not immune to heartbreak, pain, and suffering. Relationship with Jesus undeniably brings peace, joy, and contentment—but we’re still imperfect human beings living in a fallen world, which means we’re going to experience all kinds of challenges.

Whether your heartbreak is the result of something you did wrong or some wrong done to you, know that Jesus is always there to comfort you in your pain. Whatever you’re feeling right now, Jesus has felt it too.

Here are five Bible verses to comfort you in your brokenheartedness.

1. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. – Hebrews 4:15 NLT

2. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed. – Psalm 34:18 NLT

3. He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. – Psalm 147:3 NLT

4. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” – John 14:27 NLT

5. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever. – Revelation 21:4 NLT

6.The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. – Isaiah 61:1 NLT
