Have you ever been in the dark? Recently I was in a shower. I was drying off and all of a sudden the lights went off. I was in pitch dark. I was flailing at the shower curtain. I was moving my arms around because I knew it had one of those time sensors and I was waving my arms again. And finally the lights came on.
I don't know where you're at in your life, but sometimes we get caught in the dark. There are very difficult circumstances that we have to deal with because we're dealing with darkness in our life. Can I just read you a verse that I have today? It's a great verse from Scripture. It says, "I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark." That's John chapter 12 and verse 46.
You know, there are two powerful truths in that passage. The first one is Jesus is the light. He came as the light. He's not a light. He's actually the light of the world who came. And He offered Himself as a sacrifice for sin to die for our sins. You know, I don't know what it's like in your life, in your marriage. If there's darkness in your personal life, your job, your relationships. There are all kinds of situations in our life that we have to deal with darkness in. Jesus Christ says that He is the light, but the amazing truth is that He says right there from the verse He says, "those who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark."
You know, Jesus is not only the light, but He helps you and me. He prevents us from stumbling. You know, I can look at my life. I can think about the times I struggle and stumble in my marriage. I stumble being a parent. I stumble at times in my job. I stumble with different things in my life, whether it's anxiety or fear or pressure or stress.
So I don't know what it is in your life, but Jesus Christ promises not only to be the light, but here's the key. Secondly, like I said, if you trust Him, He will keep you from stumbling in the darkness. You know, the Bible says in Proverbs chapter 3, verses 5 and 6, "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Doesn't say, don't use it. He just says, don't lean on it, but in all your ways know God—that's the idea. And He promises to direct your paths.
You know what is it in your life? What is it in my life that we need to trust God for? There are many areas that we've already talked about where you and I need to watch out for the darkness in our life, because let's face it, there are a lot of people who need your light.
Can I just close with this? Think about this. Number one, do you know the true light of Jesus Christ who loved you and died for you? Secondly, are you spending time with the Lord Jesus Christ because we can't give away what we don't have? And finally, are you sharing the light of Christ with people? You know as well as I do, there's a whole world out there of people that need the light of Jesus Christ.
You know, there's the old song in the Sunday school lesson we used to sing: "Hide it under a bushel? No, I'm going to let it shine." May you, may I shine the light of Jesus Christ to a world that desperately needs Him.
