Everyone loves receiving gifts! If you are a parent or a grandparent, you have learned that the greatest joy is found in giving gifts. However, our earthly gifts are only temporary. God's gifts keep on giving over and over. These gifts, better known as fruits, are talked about in Galatians 5:22-23:
"But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!"
Jesus displayed all of these gifts when he walked on the earth 2,000 years ago. However, he didn't come just to show them to us but to give each one to us so we could give them to others. Over the next nine days, we will unwrap each of these gifts and learn how to become more like Jesus by giving these gifts to others.
Day One || Love
Everyone loves the warm, fuzzy feelings of loving someone and having them love you back. But is this what love is all about?
Day Two || Joy
What is the gift of joy? People are starving for God, but they don't know it. Because joy is elusive and happiness is short-lived, life can feel meaningless.
Day Three || Peace
What is the gift of peace? Peace is something that doesn't come naturally in this world. Because of sin, we live in a world that may try to manufacture peace, but it's coming from our brokenness.
Day Four || Patience
What is the gift of patience? We often think of patience as putting up with something or someone, like it has a superpower to hold back from blowing up at people. But patience is so much more than just staying calm.
Day Five || Kindness
What is the gift of kindness? Kindness is the characteristic of God that motivated him to provide salvation by sending Jesus. Kindness is a tender heart moved to action by someone in need.
Day Six || Goodness
What is the gift of goodness? We often overuse the word good, making it more ordinary than it is. Good expresses how we feel. But this isn't what the gift of goodness is.
Day Seven || Faithfulness
What is the gift of faithfulness? Faithfulness is something we don’t see too much in this world. For Christians, Jesus is the ultimate example.
Day Eight || Gentleness
What is the gift of gentleness? Far from weakness, gentleness can make or break our Christian testimony. In a society where gentleness is scarce, we need gentleness because we need Jesus.
Day Nine || Self-Control
What is the gift of self-control? Self-control is a gift produced by the Spirit and is a fruit of the Spirit. It is hard to do because it is needed all over our lives.
