Mother

In honor of Mother’s Day, K-LOVE DJ Lauree is hosting an on-air special paying tribute to all the strong women we call “Mom.” Across the three-hour broadcast, Lauree interviews the moms of several of your favorite K-LOVE artists. She also asks beloved Christian singers and authors to recall fond memories of their mothers and speaks to others about what motherhood means to them. Lauree even sits down to chat with her own mom, Jana.

“The Mother’s Day show has quickly become a highlight of the year for me! You’ll hear stories ranging from hilarious moments before the artists ever took the stage — and the hijinks they pulled — to sweet moments in the middle of the mess of motherhood like mamas dancin’ and praisin’ God with their babies. Also, this show is for any heart like mine that isn’t a mother yet…but trusting God’s purpose to nurture those around us even today,” Lauree shares. “I can’t wait for you to join us for this really special broadcast to honor and celebrate Mom!”

K-LOVE listeners have four chances to catch the special this weekend, beginning Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. CST and again from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. CST. On Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 2024, it will re-air at 8 a.m. CST, with a final encore starting at 4 p.m. CST. Here are five reasons not to miss the K-LOVE Mother’s Day show.

Chris Tomlin’s mom recalls the time her son baptized her in the Jordan River

Donna Tomlin, mother of Chris Tomlin, tells Lauree she’s proud of all three of her sons because of how they’ve each been obedient to the Lord. As for her GRAMMY®-winning eldest, she shares, “He grew up in a small town, and we’re still in that small town. We can’t wrap our minds around where God has taken him. Never did we see this coming.” From a mantle of accolades and a hometown museum that boasts memorabilia from the Texas native’s life and career to the birth of his three daughters, Donna has been there for all of Chris’ milestones. Yet, a recent memory that will forever be etched in her mind is a personal moment the mother and son shared on a trip to Israel when the 21-time chart-topper baptized his mom in the Jordan River.

Lauree gets the scoop on your favorite Christian artists straight from the women who raised them

In addition to Chris Tomlin’s mom, Lauree interviews the women who watched Terrian and Colton Dixon take their first steps. In addition, Carmel Mulligan — the mother of Darren Mulligan (We Are Messengers) — calls in all the way from Ireland. If that’s not enough, Lauree also checks in with her own mama to reminisce about her childhood and still needing your mom as an adult.

Terrian’s mom divulges her reaction every time “Big God” comes on the radio

“That’s my baby singing that song!” That’s Jackie Bass’ loud response every time she hears her daughter Terrian’s hit, “Big God,” on K-LOVE. The mother of five reveals Terrian was a quiet, shy girl growing up and recalls the moment Terrian told her, “Mama, I think I want to start singing for God.” Jackie claims her daughter’s musical talent did not come from her in the slightest, but that doesn’t stop her from singing along to every word of her “baby’s” songs at her concerts. “You’re gonna see me in the crowd. You’re gonna know that I’m Terrian’s mom,” she attests, “because I’m gonna be yelling; I’m gonna be screaming; and I’m gonna be having a great time.”

Colton Dixon’s mom shares her favorite song her son has ever written

While Theresa Dixon and her husband build escape rooms and own and operate an axe-throwing complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, her son, Colton, travels the world singing. Now that Colton and his sister, Schyler, are both adults, Theresa laments, “I miss them. The empty nest thing was real for me.” Despite missing her son when he’s on the road or busy with his own twin daughters, she admits she’s “so proud of everything that’s going on in Colton’s life” and the husband and father he’s become. When asked about her favorite song her son has ever written and recorded, without hesitation she chooses “Not Goodbye,” a deep cut that closes Colton’s self-titled EP released in 2020. The “American Idol” alum penned the personal track in the wake of his grandfather’s passing.
