GRAMMYs Recap

Lecrae walked away a double winner at this year’s 66th Annual GRAMMY® Awards. The respected rapper received top honors for “Your Power (feat. Tasha Cobbs Leonard)” in the category of Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song. In addition, he also earned the coveted gramophone for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for 2022’s “Church Clothes 4,” the final installment of his acclaimed “Church Clothes” mixtape series.

The pair of accolades ups Lecrae’s career GRAMMY® total to four, following wins in 2013 for Best Gospel Album honoring “Gravity,” marking the first time a hip-hop artist had ever won in a Christian/Gospel category; and again in 2015 for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for “Messengers (feat. for KING & COUNTRY).” The Atlanta-based artist has earned a total of nine GRAMMY® nominations.

In addition to Lecrae, this year’s list of Christian nominees also included Lauren Daigle, Blessing Offor, Phil Wickham, Cody Carnes, for KING & COUNTRY, Maverick City Music and more.

Taking the stage, with his young daughter in tow, to accept his awards during the Premiere Ceremony livestream held in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, Lecrae shared an inspirational message for all the talent gathered in the room and for those watching online.

“The imprint of God is on each and every one of y’alls lives,” he offered. “Whether you take home an award or not, you are fearfully and wonderfully made; and you made this music not to win an award, but to impact the world with the gift that God has put in you — never forget that.”

A pioneer in Christian hip-hop, Lecrae’s 3rd LP, “Rebel,” became the first Christian hip-hop project to secure the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Gospel chart. Lecrae’s 7th effort, “Anomaly,” earned the distinction of becoming the first album to summit the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Gospel charts simultaneously when it debuted atop both tallies in 2014. In 2021, Lecrae’s book, “I Am Restored,” was nominated in the Book Impact category at the K-LOVE Fan Awards. That same year, he was featured in “The Jesus Music,” a first-of-its-kind feature-length documentary that chronicled the history of Contemporary Christian Music.

Lecrae can currently be seen live on “Winter Jam ’24” alongside K-LOVE favorites Crowder, CAIN, Katy Nichole and more.
