Andrew Ripp says it took hitting rock bottom to discover his true purpose and identity. Partially inspired by his sobriety journey, his new single, “Breakdown,” affirms that oftentimes our lowest point is simply the first chapter of our comeback story.
Defined by poetic lyricism and an Americana-flavored melody, heavily grounded in piano, guitar and banjo, the song continues to preview Ripp’s forthcoming full-length album. The original concept for “Breakdown” was birthed by former NEEDTOBREATHE member Bo Rinehart, who recorded a rough sketch of the song in 2024. Together with his go-to collaborator, Ethan Hulse, Ripp took Rinehart’s blueprint and put his own stamp on the folk-leaning anthem.

“I’ve learned over time that our breakdowns are actually breakthroughs if we choose to see them that way. Our midnights are actually brand new mornings even though the light hasn’t reached the horizon yet. For me, it was a drinking problem that brought me to rock bottom… This became the firm foundation the good Lord built a whole new life upon,” Ripp shares. “This song means a whole lot to me, and I hope you dig it as much as I enjoyed making it.”
Last week, the “Loves Got A Way” singer hosted the Emerging Artist Showcase for the first time as a part of the annual K-LOVE Fan Awards Weekend. In addition to performing some of his own originals, including the newly minted “Breakdown,” Ripp helped introduce selections from up-and-coming artists, including Bodie, Leanna Crawford, Jamie MacDonald and Megan Woods.
In support of new music, over the past year, the father of three has spent time on the road with Jeremy Camp and longtime friend Rachael Lampa. In addition to putting the finishing touches on his next studio effort, Ripp is the host of K-LOVE On Demand’s “Words at the Well.”
