Where would I be if I didn’t have Jesus?”

This is the pivotal question new artist Peter Burton asks across his debut single, aptly titled “Where Would I Be.” It’s a question every believer has contemplated at one time or another, marveling at the way God can redeem a life. Filled with gratitude at the fact that he’ll never have to know where he’d be without Christ, Burton offers a dusty, boot-stomping original that fuses the hope of the Gospel with the sound of popular Americana bands like Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers.

“Where Would I Be” was broadly inspired by Burton’s struggles with mental illness. By sharing glimpses into his own mental health journey, the California native hopes he can help others fighting a similar battle. His first radio offering, however, will resonate with anyone who can testify to the new life they’ve discovered in Christ.

“I wanted to write a song that put a positive spin on the reflection that we would be dead and lost without Jesus. This song tells the story of victory I’ve personally found in Jesus. Musically, the song took shape instantly with a sonic picture that felt perfect for people to turn it up and shout along, declaring the beautiful life we’ve been given by Jesus,” Burton says of the message behind the driving track he penned with Matt Armstrong and AJ Pruis. “I believe this song can be an anthem for those inside and outside the church, old believers and new believers, declaring the transforming power of the Gospel and the life they’ve been given in Jesus.”

A former member of Thrive Worship, Burton is striking out on his own as a solo artist. His resume also includes a season of writing and touring with “Made New” singer Lincoln Brewster.

A father of two girls, the newcomer is currently filling the opening slot on Matthew West’s “Don’t Stop Praying For America Tour” this fall.
